چکیده

We model the radio-frequency (RF) ultrasound echo by a shot noise process with narrow-band power-law lter function. As a consequence, the in-phase and quadrature components of the return signal are shown to exhibit 1=f type spectral behavior. The envelope also exhibits this type of spectral behavior but with a diierent exponent. The model parameters, namely the rate of the point process and the power-law exponent, are related to tissue density and at-tenuation, respectively. Since these tissue characteristics change due to disease, estimates of the model parameters are investigated as potential tissue characterization features. We validate our claims based on clinical ultrasound images.

Power-law shot noise and its relationship to long-memory α-stable processes

We consider the shot noise process, whose associated impulse response is a decaying power-law kernel of the form . We show that this power-law Poisson model gives rise to a process that, at each time instant, is an -stable random variable, if . We show that although the process is not -stable, pairs of its samples become jointly -stable as the distance between them tends to infinity. It is know...

Single-Shot 3D Gradient and Stimulated Echo Imaging

Single-shot STEAM MRI [1] is insensitive to off-resonance effects because it is based on RF refocused echoes but suffers from a inherently low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Recently, gradient and stimulated echo (GRASTE) imaging [2] has been shown to ameliorate the limitations of single-shot STEAM by improving the SNR efficiency. Here, an extension of 2D GRASTE is presented that is capable of ac...

Power - Law Shot

We explore the behavior of power-law shot noise, for which the associated impulse response functions assume a decaying power-law form. We obtain expressions for the moments, moment generating functions, amplitude probability density functions, autocorrelation functions, and power spectral densities for a variety of parameters of the process. For certain parameters the power spectral density exh...

Assessment of the Characteristics of MRI Coils in Terms of RF Non-Homogeneity Using Routine Spin Echo Sequences

Introduction: One of the major causes of image non-uniformity in MRI is due to the existence of  non-homogeneity in RF receive and transmit. This can be the most effective source of error in  quantitative  studies  in  MRI  imaging.  Part  of  this  non-homogeneity  demonstrates  the  characteristics of RF coil and part of it is due to the interaction of RF field with the material being  imaged...
